10,000 Islands Report

Mar-Good Resort: Snook have been hitting in the backwaters along with reds. Try using shrimp and live pinfish. On the outside, if you go out 3 - 8 miles, you will hook into some real nice red grouper. Try using pinfish.

Outdoor Resort - Chokoloskee: The fishing has been really hot. Big tarpon in the 100 to 175 lb. range have been hooked. The reds and large trout have been hitting trout touts. The snook have been hitting real good, but remember that you must release these fish unharmed.

Cape Coral Report

Cape Bait and Tackle: Dee tells us that tarpon fishing is very good in the Cape Coral area. The best catching is from the Cape Coral Bridge, 2 miles north of the Sanibel Lighthouse. The bait to use is shad, mullet, and ladyfish. Snook fishing is picking up in the canal at the Yacht Club Pier. Bait is pinfish, shrimp, and Yo-Zuri plugs and jigs. Mangrove snapper fishing picked up in canals with snappers up to 17" being caught. Bait to use is small pinfish and shrimp. Catching lots of big seatrout up to 27" long on grass flats in Pine Island Sound. Bait to use is shrimp, small pinfish, and curltail jigs. The color to use is hot pink and gold glitter and silver glitter. Redfish are being caught in Pine Island Sound on white bait, gold spoons, and artificial shrimp. Catching shark --all kinds-- up to 7' long in Pine Island Sound and San Carlos Bay and along the gulf beaches, using chum block and cut bait.

Chiquita Bait & Tackle: The fishing is absolutely, positively awesome!!!!! A good place to go if you don't have a boat or even if you do is Blind Pass and along the shores of Sanibel. The fishing here is really great. Snook are being caught here while freelining greenies. Try freelining pinfish for this is also a good method.
Another good place to try is the lighthouse pier. There are some really nice reds up to 38 inches being caught using jigs tipped with shrimp. Sharks are here too. Reports of hammerhead, bulls, and blacktips are coming in regularly. Try cut bait.
Tarpon fishing in 20 feet of water off Sanibel Island, Ft. Myers Beach, and Boca Grande Pass is real productive right now.
Trout are biting now on the grass flats using shrimp and a popping cork. Try Bass Assassin's "Salt Water Assassin." They imitate the action of a greenback. Try using the Arkansas Shiner color in brackish water and try the Chartreuse Diamond while fishing in the green water.
Stop by and see the people at Chiquita. They will help you with all of your fishing needs.

Sunrise Bait and Tackle: Captain Bob Knirsch is moving to the Amtel Flea Market on the corner of Colonial and Metro. Bob was awfully busy, but he did have time to mention snook are being boated on white bait and redfish are hitting slimy slugs (salt & pepper). For more information call Bob.

Matlacha Report

Seven Sea's Bait & Tackle: Snook and redfish are really hitting. Try under the bushes at high tide. Use gold spoons, jigs tipped with shrimp, or top water plugs. The tarpon are rolling in the passes. Use breakaway jigs such as Cotee or 12-Fathom. The sharks are plentiful right now. There have been catches of bulls, hammerheads, blacktips, and nurse sharks. These bad boys like cut bait. So for fun stop and pick up your supplies and go have a fun day fishing.
