10,000 Islands Report

Barron River Resort, Marina, Motel & R.V. Park:
We would like to welcome back Larry Oarmon, owner of the Resort. He says that his sailing has been wonderful with the nice breezes this past winter. Johnny, manager of the Bait N Tackle Shop says the fishing couldn't be better. Large snook are biting everything with reds, trout, and cobia action hotter than ever. Margood Resort: Hanan reports some of the best fishing of the year. Snook and redfish have been plentiful with cobia being taken on top water plugs. Mangrove and hog snapper have been biting on live, hand-picked shrimp. Stop by and see one of the most interesting Calusa Indian exhibits in the state. All collected on local property.

Master Bait & Tackle: Tarpon season is off to a bang up start. Fish are being caught near shore and inside too! Big pinfish seem to be the ticket. With the warmer weather temps, fishermen are getting nice black tip sharks. The cobia action has been great. Snook fishermen are hard at it before the season closes June 1st. Outdoor Resort - Chokoloskee: Kenny says the fishing has been great. Snook are biting better than ever on live bait and some artificials. Trout action is the best he has ever seen with reports up to 75 fish being caught a day. Cobia have slowed down, but some are still being taken on the flats. Mackeral have been steady. All in all, some of the best fishing of the year!

Cape Coral Report

Chiquita Bait & Tackle: Steve reports that Boy Scout Troop 517 loaded up the boat on their last offshore trip. They caught their limit of red grouper to 20 lbs. with lots of action from kings, permit, and amberjack. Capt. Ray Gottschalk has been hammering the grouper offshore and surprisingly inshore as well with plentiful catches of mangrove snapper. Steve says the tarpon action is heating up with plentiful catches of snook, redfish, and trout biting on hand-picked shrimp. Steve has all info on fresh and saltwater fishing in the area.

K.C.'s Riverstop: "The only fishing pier in Cape Coral." Betty and Carmen, owners of K.C. Riverstop, report nice catches of snook on live bait. Sight casting to cobia with Bomber Lures is working well. Snapper action has been steady with a few sharks reported last month. K.C.'s Riverstop is located at the foot of the pier and there is no fishing license required in order to enjoy a great day of fishing. George in the Baitshop has all the info on what's biting off of the pier as well as on the water. K.C.'s offers a fuel dock along with beer and wine. They also serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a beautiful outside deck overlooking the river. Entertainment is offered on the deck on weekends.

Scottie's North Bay Marina: Don says drum action is great with big ones biting on blue crabs. Tarpon are starting to roll in under the bridges. Redfish are hitting on spoons and shrimp at the Railroad Tressel. Sheepshead, trout, and whiting are biting at marker 61 while the snook action has been great with big ones to 15 lbs. being taken off the dock.

Ft. Myers Report

Sanibel Harbour Marina: The Johnson family has been operating this family run marina for over 20 years. Stop by and see Lori for all your marina needs. The fishing has been great with snook, reds, and a few nice trout being taken on the river and back bays. While the offshore action has been steady with nice catches of grouper and snapper with schools of spanish mackeral as well. Sanibel Harbour Marina provides full service from live bait and tackle to a snack shop to fuel pumps and dry storage.

Matlacha Report

Marzella Charters:Capt. Joe Marzella reports excellent fishing. Capt. Joe has over 18 years of experience fishing local waters and can handle 4 person charters for backwater expeditions for snook, tarpon, and redfish. Seven Sea's Bait & Tackle: Jim says the fishing has been Hot, Hot, Hot!! Snook to 22 lbs. are being taken daily from Matlacha Pass and Pine Island Sound with the smaller ones biting on windcharter minnows and the bigger fish taking ladyfish as bait. Red action has picked up with some tarpon to 90 lbs. reported rolling in the Pass.

Pine Island Report

Crow Key Charters:Capt. John Hobbs reports catching snook daily with as many as 22 in one day!! They seem to be biting on live baits. Reds have been found schooling in tidal rips in Pine Island Sound being caught on topwater plugs and jigs tipped with shrimp. Capt. John offers tailor made fishing trips and specializes in light tackle and fly fishing. Call Capt. John to book your next fishing adventure.
