10,000 Islands Report

Captain Johnny Weeks:
Johnny reports the gag grouper are tearing up the offshore action. Some of his charters are picking up legal gags. The snook action is getting hotter as the water clears up. With all the low tides this month, you can spot large schools of tailing redfish along the flats. Try wading to these fish as not to spook them. Try tossing them a live shrimp or a slow moving soft bait jig.

Outdoor Resort - Chokoloskee: The fishing is HOT this month. The redfish are tailing on the flats during the lowest tides. Snook action is going strong. Check the deeper pot holes and canals for snook and trout. The preferred bait this time of the year is shrimp free lined or use a small split shot to keep your bait in place. Sheepshead are plentiful around here. Come on down, the action is hot.

Matlacha Report

Hippies Bait & Tackle: Hippies reports good catches of snook around the bridge at night using live select shrimp. The pompano are still hanging around the bridge pilings. Toss them a jig tipped with a piece of shrimp. Don't forget to scrape some of the barnacles off of the pilings to entice their feeding frenzy. Stop by Hippies for all your tackle needs.

Pine Bay Bait & Tackle: Kim and Joel report the snook are moving into the Back Country. The reds are tearing up the flats in search of food. Try tossing a Silver Spoon or a select shrimp to them, and they are sure to hit it. Stop by for all your tackle needs. Pine Bay also carries all the extra goodies you might need for that day on the water: beer, soda, snacks, and rod rentals.

Seven Sea's Bait & Tackle: Jim reports the redfish are tailing at low tide. The best results with the reds is a jig tipped with shrimp or a Silver Spoon tossed past the school and worked slowly to them. The snook are tearing up the Floating Yo-Zori lures. Inshore gags are starting to heat up as temps start dropping. The bigger gags will be hitting anything dropped in front of their noses. Look for the gags around the channel markers. Sheepshead fishing will be turning on this month. Fish for those toothy critters around the bridge or dock pilings with a live fiddler crab or shrimp. Stop by Seven Seas for all your live bait needs.
